Your soft lingering fingers fell into her soul, Reaching deeper than ever before, They lifted her heart from its emotional burn, Lifting it up off the floor, And drained all the soot and cinders and ash, Restored the magnificent glaze, Restored the colour that belongs deep inside, Like an inexplicable wave, But then as she peered deep into your eyes, Your fingers came into view, Your delicate soft lingering fingers where black, And that was the moment she knew, You’d given yourself to help shine her light, You’d given her your loneliest spark, You’d given all you had to put love in her life, You’d sacrificed all of your heart. Entered into Craig's Something I am not poetry contest. Written late July 2019.
