Loudest In the Neighborhood - Part 2

Continued from part one: So, I’m with my dog out for a walk, And a neighbor nearby, stops to talk What’s up with that woodpecker he asks me? I said, I don’t know, but he’s banging on metal now, since the tree. Neighbor says, it sounds like a drill nail gun, what are you going to do? Again I said, I don’t know…wondering what he wants me to? Surely, I don’t own the woodpecker, it’s not my pet. Such as his dog who bit mine once and she had to go to the vet! So, he carries on about how loud it is and thinks I should make a call. A call to a wildlife place in the area, to take care of it all. Never have I heard, calling about a hammering bird like this one. But this is the new idea this neighbor has spun. I suppose it takes thinking about the shouldn’t or should, Before heading to live in the mountain woods! (Don’t get me wrong, I have always loved it here). (Just having some fun) Heidi Sands 5/22/21

Hello Heidi ... I read both parts and found the verse amusing to think a bird has such a 'door knocking' affect, but of course we don't have woodpeckers here. I hope you can find a solution without cutting the trees down - thank you Heidi - Lindsay

Hi Lindsay. Yes, it has been quite an ordeal. Especially since the woodpecker started carrying on with metal roof. (Very loud hammering) As far as roofing on the house, it can get damaged, so a couple pinwheels had to be put up for now. There are many trees around here and plenty have holes from the regular work of various woodpeckers. I appreciate your comment. Thank you. I hope you have a nice evening :)

We had a woodpecker outside our cabin at the lake. It was very considerate. Never started pecking till about 10 A.M. Well penned. Have a great day.

Heidi, Enjoyed the racket in 'neighborhood part 1'.., loved 'neighborhood part 2' even more. This was meant, perhaps to bring some luck to your forest. Woodpeckers are considered lucky by many Native Americans. And symbolize friendship and happiness. Retold in countless stories and lore, some California tribes use woodpecker scalps and feathers as ceremonial objects. Worn on headdresses, and dance regalia, and inscribed on clothing and totems. The woodpecker is an important symbol and spirit animal in many native american cultures. -Richard

Heidi, Please keep us apprised of the woodpecker's dutiful drumming. A good forest guardian. -Richard

Hi Richard. That is very interesting. Thank you for the informative, positive comment. When I walked out and talked to it, asking why the metal...he intently listened to me lol. I have since looked into it further and the woodpecker purposely drum at metal to ward off predators and mark territory, called drumming, and want it to be loud. I like your comment and happiness thought too.. Enjoy the weekend :)

Invest in some earplugs, failing that a shotgun will sort out your problem lol. Apart from that, hope your weekend is peaceful Heidi. Tom
