Lost Idol
Your grandma's feeling sad today.
You may have seen her cry.
Someone is gone forever
Whom she'd hoped would never die.
She's remembering the long ago
When she was just a girl
And his piercing blue eyes from the screen
Could set her heart awhirl.
He is gone with all the others
Who had played important part
In her dreams and silly fancies,
Before Grandpa had her heart.
Richard, Ronald and Gregory,
David and Rock, Jimmy and John,
Henry and Frank and Montgomery
All of her idols are gone.
Each has taken a little piece
Of a sweet and carefree time
When these heroes of the silver screen
Were hers for just a dime.
She's crying for her favorite, Paul
And just a little for her self
As she plucks the salad dressing
Bearing his face, from off the shelf.
