Lonely Haibun
Tonight from green meadow floor
among blades of damp grass where
deer had grazed earlier, I go walking
beside a lonely country driveway. Up
on the ridge the pines are silhouetted
in faint town night-life glow. Under
stars dancing in this cool night sky,
I open an empty mailbox: no mail,
no love connection, no regrets.
