Living Waves
Waves curling into a gentle foam
gathering round coral and rock
breathing into the earth’s sand and stone
grey fog holding forth on the other shore
there soft mists spray across the Bay
seals bark by the wharf and dive for fish
today a gentle day of nature’s force
Yet the waves on a far away island
with a cruel display of deadly energy
rolling deeply into the streets
and towns moving with a raging force
lashing winds and waves
roaring sounds drawing with its
living force an angry curling foam
crushing trees, animals, man and homes
No forgetting nor forgiving the forces
by a universe that sends devastation
even onto what the earth bestows
