Living Near Death

If I died right now who would know Lingering slowly Slowly I would fade Blackness consumes my conscious Sad everyday Lonely feels cold Unreasonably cold and dark To feel another breath would create a story If you could be mine I would build a sandcastle with you And live forever in it

Keep Writing, good poem! I am not black, but I used to live near Howard Univ. I remember reading that the students were pleased to be at Howard U. because they weren't reminded of their race continually, I presume they could "relax" and not feel distracted, they could concentrate on their learning. I mention this as an observation, not a judgement.

Thanks for the feedback, it helps a lot. Sorry I didn't mean to come off ignorant in my last reply. I really just didn't understand what you were saying. Thank you...

Not so! I didn't say that, I'm questioning how much environment forces us to answer other people's questions. If someone else's question forces itself on our consciousness, we are being forced into a discussion that we did not choose to be in, we find ourselves dealing with what is their problem, and it is usually on their terms. If the questions start inside of you, then they deserve your full attention. I am a physically handicapped person (I have great difficulty speaking, and I use a wheelchair), as such people are expecting me to answer THEIR questions all the time, but they pose the questions like they aren't the source, they try to put me on the defensive! I try to ignore them, and live my life well, and work on answering the questions that start in me. Keep writing poetry! I find poetry a better mirror than anything else, and I intend to use it to work on to see myself, and not let people with preconceptions and prejudices about what is normal take over!
