I am going to tell you about three lessons I learned in life . . . I I met death as a young girl. I watched my sister die in front of me. Her blood soaking into the snow on the road. How I handled this pain was to go internal. I built walls and dwelled in a silent place but my Grandma taught me to write my grief, to share it and so I did and do. II Sometime during my life journey I learned to stand up for me. To make my own decisions even if wrong. That is how we grow by failing at times. I refuse to be what another person thinks I should be. I have to be true to me. I refuse to be a puppet or a shadow of what I could be. So I listen to that internal voice inside of me. III I also learned that people will hurt me at times. Perhaps on purpose or not. Those you love and trust can stab your heart suddenly without a thought and you realize it was all facade. Even family can say hurtful things at times. What is important is how you handle it. I never want to become what hurt me. No, I will be a mighty tree, my roots deep in the earth, my branches raised to the sky. ____________________________ February 12, 2017 PoetryVerse/Lessons Learned In Life Copyright Protected, ID 17- 875-605-0 All Rights Reserved. Wise words indeed Constance I can relate to so so much of what you say in the 2nd and 3rd stanza:-) I agree with you you have to be true to 'me' and we are responsible for our own actions:-) hugs jan xx7
