I am going to tell you about three lessons I learned in life . . .
I
I met death as a young girl. I watched my sister die in front of me.
Her blood soaking into the snow on the road. How I handled this pain
was to go internal. I built walls and dwelled in a silent place but my
Grandma taught me to write my grief, to share it and so I did and do.
II
Sometime during my life journey I learned to stand up for me. To make
my own decisions even if wrong. That is how we grow by failing at times.
I refuse to be what another person thinks I should be. I have to be true to me. I
refuse to be a puppet or a shadow of what I could be. So I listen to that
internal voice inside of me.
III
I also learned that people will hurt me at times. Perhaps on purpose or not.
Those you love and trust can stab your heart suddenly without a thought and
you realize it was all facade. Even family can say hurtful things at times. What
is important is how you handle it. I never want to become what hurt me. No,
I will be a mighty tree, my roots deep in the earth, my branches raised to the sky.
