Light the Lamp
An organ failing
The immunity getting lost
The fragile body
Burned in viral fever
Head hammered hard
Senses subtly subdued
Legs trembling like jelly
Couldn’t support the weight
When I tried to stand buckled
Collapsed like a felled tree
At the dead of night
And crumbled on the floor
Forehead lacerated deep
Eyes saved saw blood flow
As warm liquid salt on the face
And as thick lines on the floor
How long I didn’t know
For I gave the residual sense to the soul
The doctor wondered how I survived
The darkness doesn’t encase
And God doesn’t call before time
Those who light His lamp inside.
