Life When I Was Five Years Old
June 15, 2021
A Tender Moment From Childhood Poetry Contest
Life... when I was five years old.
Four decades and four years later,
I distinctly remember how was I
When I was just five years old.
I thought every person I meet
Thru my mum and pop were nice,
I thought every child I play with,
Was pretty and sweet.
I thought everything in this world
was free,
People were nice,
People cared.
And People loved.
I found my hero in Superman,
Ready to save the world in distress,
I thought people can really fly,
And be free in a place they chose.
I thought red was a powerful color,
It was fiery and sweet just the same,
I cannot understand what S means
In Superman’s shirt,
What I knew was Superman was awesome!
I was too curious to know more about my superhero,
Had a difficult time pronouncing kryptonite,
But just the same, he was my first crush!
He taught me the value of life,
Helping people in need,
Caring for people in need but most of all
Loving people for who they are.
Biggest lesson after forty decades and four years later,
Life indeed commands us to
Continue helping
Continue caring and most of all
Continue loving.
