Let You Be

Your lover's locked up in jail and you fear taking him back. For he left you hurt and scared, by his violent attack. You think of running away, perhaps before his release. But feeling hurt and unsure, your anxieties increase. Your friends say he might kill you, and you believe what they say. For he often acts deranged; and may take your life one day. Cinderella checks the clock, wanting to stay a princess. And you try to hide your hurt, thinking only of success. Your family counsels you, encouraging you to flee. And yet, you still hesitate, clinging to hope, they can't see. You can't just abandon him, or you will never feel free. For deep down, you're still in love, and your heart won't let you be. (Quatrain) 3/22/2017
