Lazarus
Lazarus
Lazarus, begging at the rich man’s table,
Waiting for a crust of bread to fall.
Lazarus, invisible – not able –
Too ashamed to lift your voice to Heaven.
In your weary, tearful, eyes I see -
I can plainly see, God’s humanity.
Lazarus! Lying by the curbside.
I wonder where you find food today.
Lazarus! Huddled by the roadside
Peering into nights of wind and rain.
In your weary, tearful face I see -
I can plainly see, God’s hidden majesty.
Lazarus! Pleading at the city gates.
Pleading for your life right before my eyes.
Lazarus! Sitting in your dirty clothes.
Tattered heart and ragged soul.
In your weary broken heart I see -
I can plainly see you are just like me.
And look to Heaven for eternity.
