Lacroix, the Dragon of Haute-Savoie
I've heard a dragon's tale since I was a wee boy
of a gentle creature who lived near a great sea.
Tis said it guards the sleepy town of Haute-Savoie
from its lair beneath the mountain, Pointe Percee.
Deep in French pastures, awash in emerald green
cattle graze in meadows of rich abundant grass.
It's a kindgom ruled by a kindly king and queen
on banks of Loire River, surface smooth as glass.
The tale speaks of the power held by a knight
who won the heart of the female dragon, Lacroix.
I wish that I could see them flying at great height
soaring over the township of Haute-Savoie.
Imagination led me to compose lyrics to a tune
of the knight who rides behind a dragon's wings.
Their silhouette blocks the light of a harvest moon
while everyone in Haute-Savoie smiles and sings.
Palette of paints in hand, I keep ready my brush
To capture on canvas, Lacroix with her knight.
Circling Pointe Percee, her cheeks pink with blush
like amorous lovers dancing in the moonlight.
How wonderful if this tale were one to come true,
of knight and beautiful dragon, soaring in the sky.
Of her shimmering scales in tones of silvered blue.
Tale of knight and dragon; a tale that will not die.
