Kruse Rhodendendron Reserve

When fire raged and burned it's roof, sun rays fell to forest floor, And lit upon scraggly flowers once doomed to bloom no more. Then unharnessed, like wild horses, the shrubs began to fight. Each year they grew and blossomed, thanking sunshine for it's light. The rains in spring brought forth rhodendendron's chromatic reds, Near Redwood towering trunks 'bove where squirrels make their beds. The rhodendendrons meander like hikers in the hills, To startle round forest corners with blossoming pink thrills. Kruse Rhodendendron State Natural Reserve is a park, A California treasure, a pleasant trip to embark. While hiking beneath the Redwood trees' scented canopy, Enjoy this gift of land, enjoy the flowers wild and free.

I wish I thought to explore when I lived in Northern California for a couple years, but life was busy and sometimes difficult and I had a little one. We did drive to Lake Tahoe and San Francisco.

One of my deepest regrets about my time living in California is that I never got or took the opportunity to take a trip to see the redwoods in all their glory. This poem is a lovely reminder.

Thank you for your comment. I lived pretty much among the redwood, and had one outside my window. I hope they survive .

Sounds fun, a place I'd love to pace around freely. "Each year they grew and blossomed, thanking sunshine for it's light." There are lots of things we should thank sunlight for. Cheers Hilda.

How Splendid this is! How dearly we hold our state parks in KY where Daniel Boone settled…And we too fear the yearly fire season. Your magery is spectaculy worded.at very end, should be trees’, not tree’s, do note as u should sell or gift this to that state park tourist dept possible for their PR. I long to see this park.

Thank you for stopping by. I fixed the apostrophe. Year's ago, I had perfect grammar. Writing poetry is bringing it back. Advice is welcome. I'm famous for it myself.

I have heard that California is a place rich in gigantic trees. From your descriptions, I assume that the Rhododendron Reserve is a beautiful park where one can hike beneath redwood's scented canopy. The rhododendron with pink blossoms must be a feast to the eyes. A beautiful poem, Hilda.

Indeed, enjoy nature, being one -- no drama in cities that is not reenacted in a forest canopy as well as its shadowy, mysterious plotting depths. Perhaps more honesty. A sprinkle of sunlight blooms a long way.

I believe that the greatest fans of flowers are the lousy gardeners. Perhaps that is why I write about them. Thank you for your kind words. Enjoy the spring days.

Dear Hilda, What a delightful ode to the resilience and beauty of nature. An evocative write that easily captures the essence of the reserve's charm and allure. Your words transport me, the reader, to this scenic park, where the rhododendrons bloom in vibrant hues amidst the towering Redwood trees. It is a very lovely piece—it's a true celebration of California's natural treasures. - Blessings, Daniel

- I love my rhododendrons, Hilda ... (I have ten different ones in my garden, and they are blooming now) - But they don't grow wild here in Norway - Glad they grew back after the fire ... they are a beautiful sight :) - hugs

Domestic rhodendendrons may have bigger flowers. That's what I've heard. But in the wild, they almost seem to be communicating.. thanks for visiting.

You have effectively depicted the distinctive allure of the nature stash, together with its essence. Excellent execution of a flowing rhyming pattern. The resilience of nature is incredible since it has a unique ability to regenerate itself even in the aftermath of a fire.

Nature has an amazing ability to recover from even a fire. You captured the unique beauty of the natural reserve as well as its spirit. Well done with fluid rhyme scheme. I especially liked the last line...'the gift of land.' So true. Have a pleasant evening, hugs, Sara

Thank you. I hiked this reserve many years ago. It was an easy walk up the hills. I no longer live near it, so I probably will never get there again.
