Once reflective now the glass just holds what you painted upon it smashed up pieces still the key clues upon the floor in fragments a jigsaw never to be assembled - get new glass paint a new scene busy yourself with it all the while life goes on choices continue outside the framed space the key to the fields is to see them - run up the hill & roll back down be close enough to the grass to see it sway check out the sky beyond the horizon let the scene change don't just let life in - live it step back further it's a digital image of a print of a painting of a broken scene of a dull place to be painted by Magritte ~ to question the boundaries of reality & representation ~ perspective is indeed unique painting & breaking windows - a pastime imagine looking in from the outside maybe that will change your view

Di11y, A pleasure to see the image and read your interpretation. What you present and say strikes me as much better than the art history class I took over 50 years ago. You are in a class of your own! Smiles!

You're too kind Duke :) I used to think there were prerequisites to enjoying art but realised when I started writing ekphrasis that the experts just sound clever but anyone can dive in! Thanks for the high praise

So thought-provoking— especially those last two lines. I really enjoy your style. Always, Laura

How wonderful to hear Rose :) I've had a delightful day, made all the better for seeing your beautiful comments coming through :) I adore tuning into paintings, I occasionally return to the same ones and write entirely different poems but I find them a really helpful poetry prompt to generate imagery to write about. I'm thrilled you enjoyed this one so much :)

Dear DD, Im reading this while listening to a very slow song (selena gomez - how does it feel to be forgotten) and i must say for some reason this poem hits deep with the music in my background, while it has a philosophical wise vibe to it it just homes so many evocative thoughts that resonate and awakens the senses! I really love also how youv written “ step back further it's a digital image of a print of a painting of a broken scene of a dull place to be” somehow it is catchy when its phrased that way! And the ending speaks volumes, its amazing how quickly perspectives shift when we observe things from outside, place ourselves out of the framed ambience! This one is soul hitting! A powerful poem! A fave for me

Had to try it Ink! I put the song on and re-read my poem and it definitely overlays a vibe! Perspective has felt a really interesting concept lately (possibly forever really) as whatever is 'true' so easily shifts, sometimes with the slightest nudge. I'm delighted you enjoyed it so much to fave, I'm sure Selena Gomez earned at least half of that :)

How clever is this smashed up piece Dilly, Simply brilliant! of course it could well be a print of a broken painting, as everything stays in the frame, you have a unique eye for the Ekphrasis, and turn these poems inside out with your original perspective, worthy of a win in any contest, cheers David

Thank you so much David. Magritte's paintings are like a conversation that takes a turn into something unexpectedly magic. I hadn't submitted for any contest, but I'll take a look now. Thank you for supportive words. Always valued.
