Kentucky

Heard a soft sufting through the front door.
Must be 'nother telegram from Kentucky.
Never lived there. Never been there.
But God I bet it's beautiful.
Blue grass. Blue trees. Blue people.
I'll make it one day, I figure. Out of this trailer.
Out of this ditch.

Got a 'gram not two months ago from Kentucky.
Mother lives there now.  Frail, worried. Probably blue.
Says it don't bother her I never visit.
Says she's sticking around. So I figure I have time.
Time to get to Kentucky. Time to be blue. Time for it all, I figure.

I recall learning a song in grade school, a lullaby named "Sleep Kentucky Babe" I just loved that melody. later I saw the state. It's beautiful.
