Keep a Good Eye Out
Keep A Good Eye Out
A perfectly good socket, void, a vacancy, where an eye should be
Was a glaring hole of emptiness
Located somewhere above the chin and nose
About the region of the upper head and face
The owner of the anomaly, an obstinate but pretty young girl
In a lovely pink chiffon dress, addressed them cordially
Truth was never on her side
And like her eye, went missing
She said the eye came out one fine day
Rolled away in that direction (She pointed up.)
She taught her finger how to lie as well
Observers needed more clues
Peel the lid back. Just a bit. See for yourself
Reveal the hole or socket but no eye, but why
“Misplaced”, so she says
Where once a gelatinous white orb dwelt
Nestled in a cozy little disc with blue or brown or green
She can’t remember
But it was the right or left eye for sure went missing
According to the little Missy
Some stated the obvious to her
My dear, it’s clear, wouldn't your other eye be the color blue
Like the one you’re looking through right now?
Speculations abounded about her and other peoples eyes
Once embedded there by God before all time
To receive light and thoughts through clear and shadow
In her case, to inform her of what is, what was and what will come to be
Never seen
And now gone
Her one good eye looks puzzled but keeps focused
Perhaps it saw all there was to see
It turns out there never was a second eye
Birth gave her one
In her pocket she hides a small blue marble
And pops it in the socket when all is said and done
