Kathy and the Lake Monster
Kathy and the Lake Monster
we arrived at last
after four hot hours
travelling ever northward.
in Boda’s old boat,
at least that is what we called it,
a huge, turquoise blue ford with
great swoops of fins on the back.
When the doors were opened
it was like last day of school
we poured out and sweating
like an over worked cart horse
the hords made straight for water
old times movie, desert thirsty, lost
racing for an oasis, in our case the lake.
Kathy got there first and plunged in
gasping at the sudden chill out she
bounced all wide awake and feisty
which lasted until about the time
we reached the front porch.
there came a roar, then a squeal.
we were a very vocal family.
An elongated word spread out
over the serene pine forest
“LLLEEEAAAACCCCCCHHHHH!!!!!!!”
and there it was stuck to her left ankle
we all started to laugh until we saw the
terror in her eyes. Boda unlocked and
disappeared into the cottage. leaving
behind a distraught, about to go bonkers
young girl bouncing around in the grass
stamping her foot desperately trying to
shake the thing off.
“pull it off”, we chimed at her
“no”, she whined back
“why”? we chorused
standing as far away as possible
“BECAUSE ITS TOOOO ICKEY!!!!!!!!!!”
just then gramps appeared with a box of salt
“sit ,sit he”, repeated as if she were one of his Springers
but she sat and he proceeded to pour a load of salt
on that creature it started to squirm yuk we all sighed
fascinated by its death throws finally it dropped off.
no one seemed at all sympathetic for the leach
