Just Call Me Blue

He tried other names But none fit him like this Green was too fresh Orange, although wild like him, seemed paisley White was whimpish And he knew he needed a color name He went by Pink for a day Until his uncle caught him and nearly drowned him Not understanding that or his tap dancing Barely escaping with his life he ignored his uncle's suggestion To go by Bug, Spider, Worm, Snake or Rat. He was not that kind of man. His parents had left his name off for a reason They wanted him to be sure. He finally was Blue like the sky Blue like the sea He moved away from his uncle and loved his name And his life, never answering texts or phone calls from that Red-neck.

I identify with 'Blue.' It's really rough being different, even these days of alleged 'diversity' and 'tolerance.' (Those two hogwash, throw-away words). It was especially tough 'being different' 60 years ago in the Heartland...I was just lucky that God gave me an athlete's frame and ability to hide the cultured, artistic devil lurking within...This one hits home, Caren. Nicely done. :) gw

I grew up with red-necks. They are wonderful when your tire explodes or a car is on fire; so I am not making fun of their love of helping.

You are on my short list of fav poets on the soup--you write like poetry is supposed to be written--enough said - the rest to be filled in with your spicing of prompts--and still left with other unanswered....mysteries

Thank you Heidi. I am trying for one more gold ribbon on another site so I can level up. It has been ridiculous how hard it is.

Do not worry. We are steering clear of those "mud-clompers".

Blue is my favorite color and my favorite evergreen is the blue long-needle pine, a fixture in the landscape of my childhood. Parents often give problematic names to their offspring, especially boys. Cardinals are winter birds where I live, but robins are definitely spring arrivals. Thanks for the stop-by. / M

I enjoyed and laughed at the end! My son likes pink and puts pink shirts on his sons. Blue is a fine name.

Thank you Kim. I think it would be a favorite for many women as well as men if they were allowed to choose their own name.
