Just a Little Story About a Moment
just a little story about a moment
standing in the god’s playground
peering into the forgiving night
evening drops, sweet water dew
fills the warm scented air
jasmine vies with lilies and violets
for queen of the gardens
below a mile or two down the
rocky cliffs the village dressed
in gold and red. streamers
and prayer flags wave gayly
at temple dancers waiting
for the music and drone of monks
to begin their delicate steps.
a story of love and jealousy,
as old as Everest itself, told
every year before planting.
a long line of small paper
lantern boats flow down the river
folded and placed just so on the
black glistening water to guide the
river goddess to their fields, with
her pots of rain for their rice.
the candles mimic the stars across
an open sky clear as newly polished glass.
let me stay a while and watch. I will not
be missed as there are many going
home tonight. Spirit guides can be
so fussy but fox is kind and sits beside
me on the wall.
