This is how I spent my January 1st-
The day my life caved in... January first, 5 a.m. I have been awake 24 hours straight He collapsed At his birthday bash His new shirt, stained With greedy pain Acrid spear Flavor of fear New year, cold Joy, on hold Ambulance lights Bloodied the night Emergency room hours Threadbare and dour Then, through speckled smoke Appeared white-coated hope Medicinal radiation purifies contamination Relief discovered He will recover Nursing staff Gives healing laugh Safe harbor, clasp Sleep - at last. 1/6/20

The drama of your story is emphasized by the couplets and your imagery. I really like the way you set up the poem. Congratulations, Michelle!
