Interrupted Flight

INTERRUPTED FLIGHT I remember The pigeon man Could take a bird Recently hurt From a window or wire, And holding her in giant hands Could smooth her feathers And stretch her wings, Tucking in her down And ziplocking her ruffled plumes, While she snipped at his fingers, Her trembling heart racing, Until he returned her to flight, And her eyes shone as she soared, Repaired.
