In the Forest of My Dreams
When all my days have been counted
and all the faces I've known
have been forgotten
Yours is the face I always remember
as it drifts through the mist from long ago
when the world we knew had fewer shadows
kept in the forest of my dreams
You are the eternal flame
burning in the temple of my heart
which lays in the quiet realm of this forest
its leaves dripping tears of sorrow
upon the altar where my soul cries
My heart hides in its secret places
trembling like a frightened fawn
left to die by the wayside
You are the memory that nourishes
with each entangled wandering
pointing to the tomorrows of the unknown
where winding roads lead to the face I once tenderly kissed
until the last farewell and a final breath
felt on a cheek growing colder
leaving nothing but a broken-hearted memory
in a barren forest
where a dreamer wept once
when the eyes of love closed in a deep sleep
and nothing was left but silence
