In the Beginning

How did it all start Was there really a 'Big Bang' Or is that just code for ex nihilo* we sprang What if there's really a Creator Who fashioned the world then Adam and Eve If He put the snake in the Garden He sure had some tricks up His sleeve It's hard to believe man evolved from a single-cell creature or that he emerged fully grown either, so Since millions prefer to believe in neither Let's give this whole topic a breather... _______________________________________________ * The Latin phrase 'ex nihilo' means 'out of nothing'

I love your "In the Beginning" rhyme write. The bible says, "In the Beginning" God created....... I put my faith in God. It all comes down to your faith. Have a great/blessed day...........

Hi, Gershon, For someone who believes in God, if the Bible says God created the world out of nothing, then that is where faith comes in. I will stand by that. The Big Bang makes no sense to a person of faith.Well written, Blessings ~ Debra

Hello Gershon ... the universe; distance; and beliefs are all too hard for me to comprehend so I'll stick with my surroundings - thanks Gershon - Lindsay

Good idea, gw, since none of us have a definitive answer. I've always wondered if we DO need one. Seems if we did the Creator would have given it to us.

I'm afraid Trinity Seminary was of the old, conservative school and all of the Hebrew, Greek, Scripture, Eschatology, etc., precluded much time for study of Wiccans and Witchcraft. I did, however, have a few seminars in Satanism. Mythology...not so much. Snake worship? Man, I grew up the hills of West Virginia. I knew about worship of serpents long before going to college, even.

Given the beginning of the trend to dumb-down colleges and universities that I experienced in the late 60's and early 70's, without your 'c'mon,' I would have thought a doctoral candidate in theology by 1990 would be well-versed in Wiccans, Witchcraft, Satanism, and Mythology... Hebrew? Latin? Scripture? Commentaries? What's all that, man, next to Snake Worship?! lol.

Well, c'mon gw, after all I do have a doctorate in theology, albeit received over thirty years, or so, ago! Hey, thanks for the heads up. I don't know much about Kabbala, though. I have a book-length manuscript, "A Sensible Look at Genesis for Sensible People," perhaps I'll get back to it!

Very interesting comment, Milt. Probably 'unknowingly,' you have given the standard, classic answer of the Jewish Sages to the question of Creation. I.e., if G-d had wanted us to know how it happened (how He did it), He would have told us... Although, there is this proviso: The Kabbala deals with this topic, albeit in an indirect manner, relying on allusions and hints in verses of Torah. Kudos, Gershon

Gershon, The human condition. The sun may just be a ball of hot gas. But, unlike chloroplasts or primordial amoeba, come to depend on it for more than just warmth. And poetry has never been just words on a page. -Richard

In somewhat unrelated news. Did you know God was a baseball fan? It's true. The very opening lines in the Bible tell us so. "In the 'big inning' God created the heavens and earth."

'Top of the ninth?' Two men on and nobody out? With the advent of 'Eve,' ya think it was a 'night game? '

perhaps we are the only specie that is more concerned with how we got here than what we're here for....or like that great line from the Laugh-in skit...."do you believe in the hereafter........then you know what I'm here after..."

That is, indeed, a great line from Laugh-in, John. Thanks for sending it my way. ~ Gershon
