In the Backyard of My Mind
In the backyard of my mind
Grew from a pit
I planted a long time ago
the simplest of pleasures
the serene desire
unspoiled, unpretentious,
to make of every living day
a new leaf of life
that would grow and mature
on the pit I planted long, long ago;
but a tree has no roots and no heart
and no soul that grows
on a barren land
so I sowed yesterday
under the cushy canopy
lilies and daisies and
thistles and sunflowers
that will sing to the sun
in their whirl of blooming attire
the gaily tunes of their merry go round.
