I'm thankful for the timing of my birth,
I have never seen a war or a plague.
And my perceptions of either; are vague,
though both have vexed Man forever on Earth.
Born within a sweet spot in history,
longevity is a birthright of mine.
And I've never had to face a food line;
such poverty remains a mystery.
Well into my later years, I've known peace,
whereas my ancestors all went to war.
And their soldier's graves, though well cared for,
are like links in a chain, missing one piece.
And yet, I believe this reprieve will end,
Canada will face war and plague again.
And future generations will know pain
that, in my life span, Fate chose not to send.
