I’m happy we are on lock down I’m now spending far less money Sadly I can't visit my elderly mum So I sent her two jars of honey I’m happy we are on lock down We are still able to go for a walk To communicate with loved ones we use the internet so we can talk I’m happy we are on lock down Our air’s purer we have less pollution With only essential travel allowed It’s a now proven pollution solution I’m happy we are on lock down If it means we don’t catch the virus And I love the music my son plays I hear Queen and not Miley Cyrus! I’m thankful we are on lock down If it means that no lives are lost Many elderly folk are at risk we must protect lives whatever the cost Quarantine Poems Poetry Contest Sponsored by Julie Leigh Rodeheaver We have the virus where I live and are on lock down for 21 days, we can shop for provisions (ensuring we keep to the 2 meter rule) and go for a walk but otherwise we are to remain at home unless a journey is absolutely essential. Thankfully at the time of writing no one has died but the number of cases are rising 03/31/20 03/31/20

Jan, happy to see you win top honors with this jewel. Interesting to read comments below and see what thoughts were 6 weeks ago... many of us thought lockdown would be over by now. Congrats, stay safe and keep writing gems, my dear friend ~ John

Turning something negative positive, one can accomplish many things. A private person most of my long life, I've been able to educate myself in several things – other religions, ancient and modern philosophies, languages, art history, foods, etc. People who claim they go stir crazy or develop cabin fever for lack of something to keep themselves busy are to be pitied. Lock down has not affected me so far and there's another month to go! Hang in there, Jan. / M

- My husband is taken out of work ... fits perfectly now as we try to get the new house ready ... we work there every day now ... so it is positive for me ... but, much else is complete in STOP regarding the house - But,"lock down" that's the right choice :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

Out of something bad you are finding something positive to focus on. the only way we can contain this virus is to adhere to the lock down conditions and we are making the most of quality time with our son and trying to spend time in the garden, not being able to see mum is hard but it has to be done:-) hugs Jan xx

Like you, lockdown does not really worry me. I find lots to do, and have little time to spare. We are in self quarantine and only one of us goes out to buy necessities. We still have had no deaths on the island, but the cases have now risen to 188. Could have been in a better situation had we closed our airport anf ports earlier. Hugs // paul

Hi Paul we are on lock down by order of the government, no one can arrive or leave the Island as there are no planes (except for medical emergencies) and the ferry only carries freight. sadly they announced the first death today. we have about 60 cases confirmed. It is vital we follow the guidelines:-) sending my love to you and the family:-) hugs jan xx

Great! I love how the pollution is less. I wonder what the pigeons are thinking in the big cities.

Yeah the lack of pollution shows there are positives to the virus and having us on lock down, sadly they have just announced our first death here, it will send shock waves across the community but out of the tragedy hopefully will be a strong message that we have to take this seriously and prevent more people becoming infected :-( hugs Jan xx

My friend, your poetry has never been offensive to any decent person that understands humor, or that knows why you write. Your giving to others, by way of composing your fine poetry is to be commended-not criticized. Stay the course you are on regardless of any critic. Just pity such people...... God bless..

Jan; anyone who knows you and your sense of goodwill cheer will realize your poem is meant to be uplifting and positive in these sheltering days. It is for a contest, and since you and many others are weary of the gloomy virus poems, your verses give everyone on the soup a moment of respite with your humor. Pay no attention to the sarcastic remarks of the one who himself wrote, "If what we can do will then be The best outcome for you and me." The best we can do is to stay in lockdown.

I DO know you, Jan. That's why I had to comment; something I rarely do here since my farewell poem. I refuse to post, but I'll always comment when I feel the need. TJ's poems are gone, but he remains in our thoughts.

Thanks Lin, only one lot of negativity but everyone else appreciates the humourous aspect which was encouraged in the contest rules. You know me Lin I try and find humour in everything more often than not the poems are at my own expense and I will never be deterred from writing, its a sad day for the site with Teppo leaving and deleting his account:-( hugs Jan xx

Be happy Jan, even in lock down mode, because happy is the best thing to be! Your positive attitude and your appreciation of what is around you and at your disposal will see you through any (including this one) crisis! I appreciated your poem and even read it a couple of times!

Jan, I do love your humour, but here it is mixed with some serious... you bring out some great silver linings that we often miss. Who but you would rhyme virus with Miley Cyrus! A beauty.

The power of positive thinking can be measured by your upbeat poem, Jan! Superb! … As for me, I was happy before the lockdown. Still happy --- little to do with the lockdown though. Heh, heh. Keep the spirits high! ~ Ciao

Yeah to be honest GW little has changed in our lives, yeah we cant go to places we used to but we are not that materialistic so being able to get food is a priority, the only thing I've done is order bulbs for the garden:-) hugs jan xx

WELL done, Jan! The penultimate verse is another classic! COVID-19 has proven to be more effective that Donald Trump or the Clean Air Act, but people have yet to realise that being home is a marvelous opportunity for families and government to do what could not be done or what was difficult to do during everyday traffic. Keep writing those winners! Aloha! Rico

yes it is a real eye opener to see the before and after pics with the lack of pollution. There are positives and negatives to the lock down but we have to make sacrifices and in time we will be back to life... but maybe not as we had it before. I wanted the poem to have a humourous slant but also send out a message too:-) hugs Jan xx
