If Only To Make Her Smile

as if renounced her somber eyes speak to me as she stands on her sidewalk alone this Christmas day i stroll towards her as i have every holiday since his passing with gift in hand always hoping to see her smile like old times i draw tears from downcast eyes as i leave with stains upon my shoulders feeling defeated again

I've been there.... it is the love that will last forever, the sorrow shown is her love being shown. Sorrow isn't forever, love is. Sorrow will always linger each day, especially on that day. You've expressed the love she proudly possesses as a mom.

Thank you Pax...sorry you have been there... he was her only son, she never used to venture outside much except to go to work, the store and come home...he always sat outside with us, now on warm days she sits out with me all the time, i have talked more to her in the last year then i had in all the time I've known her...i feel so bad for her...i know she loved and misses him... hugs

Thank you so much... sadness seems to be my muse's choice of emotions, though i do force her to write other things sometimes... :)

We can try ever so hard, but pain is difficult.

A scene so many of us -- me too -- can relate to. Life can be so hard, sometimes. So truly depicted, Sandy! Here's to happiness! Cheers, Gershon

oh my, is this about your neighbor? Why do I have that feeling...I hope you and her found peace and harmony. You deserve all the joy the world can offer. We both write with a struggled sorrow and I always appreciate every poem you write. Hugs from across the miles... x:-)-luloo

it is my neighbor...since her only child passed she has no one to give her a gift christmas morning when she wakes up... sure she sees her parents and siblings on christmas eve and then again during the day but it's not the same...her father is very ill and in the hospital often...her dog is up there in years as well and starting to become frail.. every mother's day... birthday...christmas i get her something... i always hope it will make her smile, but she always ends up crying...i know it's still fresh...we share many summer eves watching the hummingbirds and share signs of her son we see around us...i've made her many plates of food the first year he was gone...hugs and blessings to you my dearest friend...

Thank you my friend...i try...i know it will take time for her to heal but the thought of her waking up christmas alone, to an empty house i know brings memories of her only son to the surface...he was a sweet kid who shared many hugs with me.. he would ask me to bake him birthday cakes and stuff...we were all close...hugs

Wow, this was so sad. But your kind and caring actions I am sure touched her in some way and brightened her day a bit, even if you walked away with sadness weighing on your shoulders. Beautifully written my friend in only the way that you can.

Thank you so much Chris...i couldn't imagine her pain...she doesn't have other children to lean on, just her frail and aging parents who seem to be in the hospital more than not these days...i always get her some gifts for christmas...she always ends up crying... it's okay...at least she knows someone cares... hugs
