If Only I Could
If only I could see me as I am,
See the real me coiled up, seeking a voice,
Could step aside of me— a stuck up stem
And see, the child as looks for his lost joys,
If see I could people’s pain felt within,
And feel much as they feel— pain caused by me,
I sure would see the world never ere seen,
Or see the same world’s never seen beauty.
And yet alas, man scarce can catch his dreams
That flicker as fireflies but clear can’t talk,
Nor yet can make his wants and cravings walk
Much like quirks of fancies, vacuous whims.
But I know, never ‘tis easy to fix
As is to break. Life’s no digital clicks.

Sonnet (Tongue-in-cheek) |06.04.2023 |
Poet’s note: Yea, if wishes were proverbial horses I’d sure ride on them to varied courses. But ‘If only I could’ is no more than a wish horse, this sonnet so feels, tongue firmly in cheek, after taking a long ride in its octave.
