If I Were a Bird
If I were a bird
A hawk or a jay
I could soar in the endless night
And be kissed by dappled sun in the day
The sea beneath me
Calm as a dove
Then angry and churning
It's salty heart stopped by love
My flock surrounding me
In powerful, delicate anticipation
As winter draws closer
And we migrate to prevent its chilled extermination
I do not fear the wind
Upon its back, it carries my weight
Soaring, Sweeping, Diving, Flying
Not burdened by hate
If I am bird,
A hawk or a jay
Then my wings are made of lead
When I try to fly, they only flay
