I can’t get behind the wheel, I’m disqualified So I’m on the early morning train ride to the city There are so many commuters, I join the throng Down the street as I was drifting with the city's human tide. We are packed like sardines crushed side by side Makes me wish I’d never driven when blind drunk It’s many years before I can get my licence back Now I rely on trains or friends or take a taxi ride I wish I could drive my car, that can’t be denied But I got caught and ended up before the judge Got banned from driving, I had to pay a huge fine I’ve lost my good character; and my sense of pride I began drinking heavily when my dear wife died It spiraled out of control but I don’t deserve any pity As being four times over the limit cannot be justified Fiction poem for Contest 3. Down the street as I was drifting with the city's human tide. 03/09/20

It may be fiction...but many have been fined for just what you have written...I take it seriously...driving drunk could badly affect many innocent people...Good advice

You must move to the US. I have heard of people who have maimed and killed while driving drunk five or six times and still do not lose their license. In some states it is legal to drive while drinking with an open container.

It is rare to find such character as most with a revoked or suspended license continue driving - of course, without insurance! A contest win would spread your message! Aloha! Rico

I worked in insurance underwriting for 10 yrs, the amount of people who tried to get back on the road before their time was up was unreal ... and the penalties of a conviction meant their premiums were loaded - that is if the insurance company would look at insuring them in the first place. hugs jan xx

You my friend nailed it with this great new creation. Many decades ago I had a very good friend that was killed by a driver that was driving while drunk. I have never forgotten that senseless death due to another person's irresponsibility and careless action. A fav, God bless...

Thanks Lindsay, even on our little Island I see more and more cases of driving under the influence of drink/drugs, the message just doesn't seem to get through:-( hugs Jan xx
