If God Has a Heart

If God has a heart,
What pains man must cause him:
the killing, the cheating,
the lying, the hurting.

Does He weep 
when we war?
Does He mourn
our senseless deaths?
Does He despair
of our willful blindness?

He is God-- He must feel
every lonely death,
every lost breath...
billions of dots of pain
and grief, each singeing,
burning His divine heart.

Thank you, Greg-- 'musings' is the right word--I choose to believe in a personal 'active' God as deism (a distant, impersonal god) seems to me pointless and as empty as atheism. And if we are made in His image, then that means He is a Being with emotions.

Oh, how I have contemplated this (and much more that's related) in my search for the divine ... born into a strong Christian family and a Born-Again later in life, I had a cisis of faith a couple of years ago (at age 57!) and I don't know if I'll recover. The search goes on, but this is exquisite! Congrats!

I can understand Greg-- I was an agnostic until I had a near-death experience at 24 while almost drowning. But I have never found faith to be easy in the 46 years since, because God is not easy: if He were, we would take Him for granted, because we are not easy. The essence of faith seems, to me at least, to be 'reaching out', for our little souls are desperate to connect with the Great Soul, and fortunate are those who feel that longing for they begin then to transcend mortality itself. Suggest C.S. Lewis's "Mere Christianity", Timothy Keller's 'The Case for God' and Julian of Norwich, Revelations of the Divine.
