I Wonder How I Look In Your Eyes
We are reduced to asking others who we are
Yet We never dare to ask ourselves
We ask others what they think of us despite never asking ourselves
We care so much of how others see us but not how we see ourselves
We wonder if our skin is too light or too dark.
If our afro is too big, or our curls too wild
Why do they stare ?
Is it because they do not understand the complexity of our hair?
our big lips, nappy hair, ageless skin are all things you tried to make us hate
And we did for a while but now we realize those are things that make us, remarkable
And yes, i know we all devour lies when our hearts are hungry
Simply because they give us validation
Something we should give ourselves because we are ours before we belong to anyone else
And There are many things i would like to say to you all, but i don’t know how
I mean, how could i tell u how insecure u all make us feel about our lips , our skin, our body, our whole being and i don’t know how to tell you that everything is spiraling out of control
And although i know we are all beautiful
The greatest tragedy is being convinced we are not.
