I Wish You Could Have Stayed
You were a fire
Warming this icy world
Your kind words pulled me from the dark.
Everyone time your lips pulled into a smile
My heart warmed a little more
And life less awful for a while
I wish you could have stayed.
Young and full of life
It wasn’t your time.
There were too many who pointed at you and said
“That girl, she’s mine.”
You had dreams to pursue
And chances to take
Life had so much in store for you.
I wish you could have stayed.
There are times I spends hours
Sometimes days
Thinking of why it had to be you.
Asking myself over and over
Why that road?
Why that lane?
Why her?
Why couldn’t you have stayed?
The world is a strange place
It breaks people
And afterward
Many are strong at the broken places.
But I don’t feel strong
I feel incomplete
It all feels so wrong
I’m suffocated with the pain of you.
I wish you could have stayed.
Although it hurts
It’s better that you left
This cruel world
It would have given you many burdens
And little joys
I know you’re better off
In a place with no stupid boys
Or hopeless nights
So even though it’ll always hurt
I know that it was right
That instead of staying you left.
