I Will Never Forget

mother your arms that held me pressed and your kisses on my cheek your voice singing me a lullaby so I could sleep your tears of love when I was sick or sad and how you kissed my hurts away when I fell at play or when my heart was broken always my safe harbor you forgave me every stupid thing (and there was a lot) you accepted me with unconditional love always stood by me with pride your door was always open your home always mine you said you were the best mother a girl could have so when you became sick, oh so sick when you were dying, mother it was I who pressed you to my heart and kissed your cheek with unconditional love, love and pride my hands tried to soothe your pain away but I could not so I stayed by your side for days and shed tears until your last breath_ _________________________ May 13, 2020 Poetry/Free Verse/I Will Never Forget Copyright Protected, ID 20-1251-872-03 All Rights Reserved, 2020, Constance La France Written for I Will Never Forget sponsor, Silent One First Place

Constance, such a tender full-circle tale of love returning to the one who first taught you what love is. Felt even more by those of us who have buried a mother... loved "always my safe harbor", this describes my mother perfectly. Thank you for committing your sadness to poetry and sharing with others who can benefit from shedding a communal tear. Bless you, my friend, and congrats for your win. Warm hugs ~ John

John, thanks for your kind words, there is no greater pain than losing one's mother (to me anyways) my mom died so young, it was unfair that such a beautiful and kind person had to suffer, not a day goes by that I do not press her memory to my heart, thanks for the congrats , appreciate _Constance

What a beautiful and loving tribute to your mother, Constance. I really love the way you took this poem - your mother's love and how you had the chance to "mother" her because she taught you about a mother's love. Congratulations on your first place win! Blessings to you.
