I That Troddeth Through Flames of Hades To Burn

I That Troddeth Through Flames Of Hades To Burn I that troddeth through flames of Hades to burn Sheddeth my blacken, snakelike and scaly skin As glowing embers scorch me, this I did learn Man has no other course but to wallow in sin. This dark world, its ungodly gifting of pleasure Holds sweetest, that taste of our depraving lusts As evil enfolds life and casts its false treasures Its blackened winds destroy with their hidden gusts! Pray tell, which saving grace awaits one's reaching hand And will wield power, to a long, lost soul rescue Doom and gloom are true shadows within this land As rushing storms fly forth to envelope me and you! As I pray, will you understand my great woe? Should I run far away, will you too, dare to go? Robert J. Lindley, July 12th 1994, ( Why We Know God Exists )

Hi Robert, once again your poetry does set afire my thoughts. You sing a dark song laced with truth. My friend, you are a master of true poetry. If I could write half as good as you, I would then call myself a poet. A wonderful, meaningful, dark write. A fave. Have a wonderful Sunday. Your friend always....Mike.

"Man has no other course but to wallow in sin." got me thinking of all the Bible passages that support the "T" in the Calvinist "TULIP". I am not a Calvinist but I do like a lot of their preachers.

Well penned; Robert, have you ever thought about writing horror fiction, based on fact? You have a great deal of insight into the fears of humanity and see deep within the darkness, the truth.

Wow! Talk about "hitting the nail on the head"...you did it again with this poignant and interesting poem, Robert. I think this is the kind of poem that appeals to everyone because sooner or later we all wonder if our sins will sink us or if our "reaching hand" will be grasped by an angel of God. Great poem.

Thank you my dear friend. I too believe that most of us have such inner questions in regards to our passing. It is just that most do not care to write about such a subject, IMHO.

Thank you for such a wonderful comment. I hope that you do write one and if so please notify me so I can read it.. Many miss the fact that dark poetry can express more about light, hope, goodness, kindness, charity, love, sorrow , mercy, faith, Heaven and God than one would at first think possible. Also express so very much about life and this human condition that we are prisoners in my friend.

Thank you my friend. I have been writing dark verse since age 15, I turned 65 this month, so that is 50 years of writing dark verse. Poe started me down that path, which I attempt to counter with verse not so dark.

Classic writing as usual, Robert. You must be in a cynical mood today.

Thank you my friend. Maybe a bit , but this was presented imply because Andrew Fairchild's poem titled, I Lazarus , reminded me I had written this. I searched and found it, I written it 25 years ago.

Your command of words is frighteningly apparent in this missive, my friend. Well done does not begin to "cut it".
