I Remember Fondly, My Early Years

I remember being in my crib, hugging a soft Teddy Bear. I remember, my Mother, so young, reading poetry to me. I remember being a wee girl, dancing, in front ot a tall mirror. I remember my first school leather bag, with my initials in gold. I remember crowning flowers on Mary on May first, in second grade. I remember my fear during blackouts….during World War II. I remember my hands holding a rosary during my First Holy Communion. I remember the exquisite joy, rolling down hills of crystalline, white snow. I remember the sweet joy of church carnivals with my friends. I remember Saint Mary’s church bells ringing without fail.at noon. I remember a life with no TV, and great radio shows about books. I remember the wonderful sound and smell of silver cap guns, going off. I remember waving flags at parades, Panagiota, so proud to be an American! I remember the uncles who went to Europe in uniform, never to return. I remember the joy of playing Cowboys and Indians. I remember a world free of political correctness, where respect ruled. But~ my best memory is indeed, yet to come! 1/14/2023

Nostalgia, accompanied by neuralgia! ROFLMAO. Those uncles (SIGH} Cap guns were fun!I had a cowboy hat with a light inside and it showed a picture of hop A Log Cassidy. Most here, Too young to recall. Those were days of braids and beauty. Respect for elders and etiquette. Summers on swings. Dreamy days, eh PS? Thank you for reading me! I am honored.Panagiota

A wonderful write! I can share much of this! What was wrong with it - nothing. Today they will remember playing zombies, pokemon, and perhaps a lot of hurting each other’s feelings. Love your first line, thoughts of your mother, your church celebrations, patriotism, sadness of war. Love the cap gun reference too!

Kim, am blessed by your generous comment and good you can relate to this..families can’t be in a room anymore without an iPhone going off.or a TV on. You tube, etc. kids think family is the internet The TV is nothing compared to PC addiction, Church via Zoom? I got a cap gun for Eddie as Obama was pulling them off the market. Indian was never a bad word. Nor were the words… man or woman. Gentler, quieter times, abundance of love with great music. Life was magically alive. People wrote and spoke in complete sentences. Life was no rush. Just joy! Gratitude reigned. Panagiota

Hi Eve, I am not about to die, Lisa Presley died at 54! My paternal and maternal relatives lived long, healthy lives. Not one of us, at any age, knows when God will tap us on the shoulder to come home, right? I have a life…chock full of happiness and accomplishment. There is nothing for me to prove or be awarded for!I have been blessed with people of your caliber, heart and depth. Thank you for adding a positive dimension to my life! Hugs, Panagiota

"But~ my best memory is indeed, yet to come!" A perfect ending/beginning. A trip down memory lane. Though most of my experiences were quite different, in essence I can relate. Thank God for memory, and our ability to be happily selective. We cannot, and should not forget departed loved ones I agree. But each day a chance to be reborn. Love it!

Yes, dear Joe! These memories are imprinted on my soul. I am so pleased you enjoyed it. Great , too you can relate. I try to write with my feet on terra firma. I could not even write a book so full of love and joy. Those who lost lives in wars, especially, hit me.there were hundreds of funerals I attended of friends of our family or family. My Dad owned a business and helped people out who needed it. There was such thing as welfare. There was people fare. Each day, our chance to leave treasure for the children waiting to be born. Thank you for being in my life! Panagiota

Happy memories Pangie, they were the best times for sure , yes there was gloom but the good times outweighed it. Sadly we'll never see those times again. Tom

Hi, Tom, bless you for reading this. People married in those days, what a concept, eh? There were no musical partners, nor divorces. Till death, do us part, had meaning! Children and babies were blessings not burdens.we all were valued.this is a small part of my life. It is a panapoly of beauty, filled with respect and love, to grow up as a valued person, you know how significant that is. Family was all, not the outrageous GOV! The best is they to come. Thank you, Panagiota

Fantastic poem, such vivid descriptions of you early years. Though you are long in years you have a young heart. I think this is one of your many gifts. Anthony

Anthony, do you know you are magic to me? Why is it that your comments make my day! That tribute, you wrote, not only made my Christmas the best, but we rarely read each other. And you have a depth of knowing me, best! I don’t know how you do it. I thought you left because I forgot your name,))) my daughter wonders, when I will grow up. She said I have no filter on my mouth. Righto. Add that to my thoughts.. I came here writing honestly and naively thinking that was good. I have special friends here I trust. I will write as is, meaning being naked in expression even though the tide is against me. All my years are a joy. Broken legs and near death three times. So what? You pour strength into me. I survived threats here. Why? Because I can and will. I think there will be loud cheering when I die here. And that’s, what I want. Honor the living. I will be in my Father’s house. Thank you for knowing who I am. Respectfully, Panagiota

It’s hardly Shakespeare, or about the vastness of the universe. Just, truth, simplicity, of times younger folks may not have expererieced. The field of entertainment then...,outdoes violent movies…it almost seems like I was born on another planet, I don’t understand theft, murder of babirs or grownups. Nor technology as God. Worse the FEd as God! Panagiota
