I Long To Write a Poem

I long to write a poem with lasting impact One to be remembered long after I’m gone Simple, realistic, meaningful, not abstract Probably from a real-life experience drawn. Indeed. I think every poet longs to write something that is memorable, especially after they are gone.

This is the best Pantoum I have read so far. You are not over ambitious Milton. Your poems will definitely outlive you... ! I am struggling to write a pantoum....

Ah, thanks so much, Valsa. I really appreciate what you had to say about my poem. I love writing them when the theme fits nicely.

"Like Poe or Kilmer, perhaps, Milton or Donne Simple, realistic, meaningful, not abstract" - I was looking for Samuel T. Coleridge, my favorite poet!

Hmmm...I can't say he came to mind, but I'm going to look him up and read some of his stuff. Thanks!

I suppose it's possible, but I can't think of but one of two of my poems that I think could possibly make it through. Anyway, thanks for the uplifting comment.

We all dream of writing 'the one' that will live on when we're gone. Many of the famous poets we know today became popular long after they'd gone. Maybe it will be the same for us on here. A publisher in Ireland wanted permission to use one of mine in an educational book for children about Ernest Shackleton, I was over the moon when they sent me a complimentary copy of the book. Tom

Aw, Tom, I am so proud for you. There is nothing so wonderful as this kind of affirmation of your work. Just think of all the children who learned from your words. Fantastic!

Aw, what a compliment, Jan. You are soooo sweet. Yes, but my parents probably never heard of Milton, the poet. Perhaps, my mother did. My sister said I was named for a radio character famous in the forties. Jan, IMHO, you do write quality poetry. I have read some wonderful poems from your pen, and I remind you that many, many famous poets wrote poems considered out of the mainstream in their day. You fill a most important role here on the Soup, and I hold you in highest esteem!
