I Like This Chain I Wear

The very tips of fingers- soft, pulsing The very edge of words- too afraid to say You are a dream produced by a fevered mind I am your woman; your angel in hidden skin You are the contract that somewhere I must have signed I am the rough cloth that you must spin; the prize that you must win; the water you immerse yourself in. And throughout the days and nights of change You will always remain the same Without a sound we connect You will always keep my heart aflame Without a thought we move to protect. I like this chain I wear Heart shaped marks in my flesh A ring of Sapphire glitters and warms While I sit in freezing isolation. Rosy fingerprints claiming each other We search with fervor- our lives and souls You are an art of perfection I hope to be your support and love You are who I base my affection I hope to give you all you are devoid of. I’ll squeeze your hand to tell you I’m here When the wind begins to chill and bite And whisper softly in your ear: It will be alright. I like this heart I am holding More precious than air For it is life itself And I can never let it go.
