'i Hold the Key'

Have cried an ocean full of tears have stood looking upward whispering prayers and fallen to my knees in grief but my heart has never found relief my heart is full of forever sorrow that will stay for my every tomorrow so I hang my head like a dying flower my sadness a monster that wants to devour _ There is an eternal dagger in my heart and I cannot remove it for it holds in the hurt I have locked the door to memories from the past tried to wipe out all the names so vast but, sometimes a memory creeps under and I hold it to my heart in wonder weeping at the beauty, the happiness and joy and realize that memories I should not destroy_ I must keep within my heart both the good and bad all the memories both happy and sad for they are part of who I am and who I will be and to my heart only 'I hold the key'_ _______________________________________ May 5, 2020, Edited from September 14, 2019 Poetry/Rhyme/'I Hold The Key' Copyright Protected, ID 20-1248-893-03 All Rights Reserved, 2020, Constance La France Submitted to Brian's Choice 4 Contest sponsor, Brian Strand Honorable Mention

This makes such terrific sense once you slow and actually read the words "There is an eternal dagger in my heart and I cannot remove it for it holds in the hurt" WOW!

You have deep insights into your heart, a very admirable trait, plus the fact that you can convert those intangible feelings to tangible words is such a gift. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us ~ John

John, thanks for you visit and kind words. When I was a young girl full of pain I could not express in speaking, my grandma told me to write it, write for the world to know and I did and I do and that was the beginning of the poet who is me, I taught myself to put my deepest feelings onto paper _Constance

beautiful in its sadness Constance, I love your trademark melancholy style and the final stanza is one I can definitely relate to because our memories are all that will remain and make us who we are:-) hugs Jan xx
