I Do
Young man with a big plan,
Young girl wants to see the world,
One day they meet, by chance on the street,
Love at first sight, it seemed so right.
A whirlwind courtship, each other they worship,
Young man with young wife, in love for life,
But what of their dreams, set aside it seems,
The lure of lust and sex, a terrible hex.
Desire of the flesh, will not make lovers mesh,
Bodies become old and love grows cold,
Children are here, not enough money they fear,
Work like dogs day and night, no time for love but time to fight.
They have lost their magic, so terribly tragic,
Now they are alone and only talk on the phone,
Who gets the kids this week, a division of property they seek,
Angry words are spoken and tender hearts are broken.
What went wrong, it hasn’t been that long,
When they said their “I do’s” and their love was new,
Guard your love and seek help from above,
Love people above things, before you exchange rings.
Relationships need more than a passing glance, to have a fighting chance,
Truly love and respect your mate, before it’s too late,
Make sure of love now, before you say your vows,
To enjoy a wonderful life, as man and wife.
