I Can Count To Ten

I can count to ten You can count to one hundred It was always like that, wasn’t it? When I was in exams You were in college I can count to ten And you can pretend to be better Where are you now? Where are you? I know I’m standing taller I know I am much stronger But you and I don’t speak Not that I have anything to prove But I’m a better human being Not that it’s a game though If it was I would win again and again Because I can count to ten, I can draw I can sing, I can act and dance, I am a genius And you can give me my limelight, now Not that I have anything to prove But admit I’m on gold and you’re on bronze Tell me I am better than you Sibling, give me back my limelight _____________ This poem is really about the affects of sibling rivalry on an adult. Have you ever seen siblings argue? Sometimes it's insane, a broken toy from years and years ago suddenly matters and they're children again. I hoped to evoke that feeling with a slight psychotic twist.

This is an excellent poem. I like how the title resonates throughout the poem, and how the essence of the sibling jabbing comes to the forefront. I have quite a few myself. I used to visit London a lot. Great job and welcome to poetry Soup! ~Joseph

Well you evoked that feeling very well! No rivalry with my sibling anymore. That was long ago and far away. Perhaps because I am sister to a 5 year older brother. Well, every family is different, and I have seen what you write about so well here. Thank you so much for your lovely comment! Love, Shar
