I Am Not Just a Dog I Am Family
I love being man's best friend, but I'm more than just a friend,
I'm family all the way to the end.
I'm affectionate, loving, and also content, the time spent with me.
My unwavering devotion and loyalty for you, my master.
A devotion to help you live a life full of joy.
I walk and investigate by sniffing the grass, fence,
and underneath the trees when you take me for our walks in the park.
You trust me to stay close, but my attention is caught so easily
when I see a squirrel out gathering nuts.
I run after it as it taunts me by imitating my bark,
then runs up the tree.
There on top just far enough that I cannot reach,
it looks down at me and laughs.
At the end of the day, you pat my head, and give me a belly rub,
and I nestle close to keep you safe.
