Yes so sad, we all go through this to some degree thinking we are invincible, even sadder when you see mums texting, I liked the poem!

It is the saddest thing ever. I drive expecting every vehicle on the road to explode at any minute or come at me like a missile.

Terrifyingly true. I hate to admit it, but I had that mentality at eighteen, too (although we hadn't invented texting then). The crazy thing is, I've been nearly run off the road by an older person texting and driving! The kids are totally clueless- but what on earth is the grown-ups' excuse?!

It makes the children so sad for about twenty-seconds when people come to school and show them a wrecked car, tell them a teenager was killed and their last text was "I am on my way." Twenty-two seconds top, because at eighteen, most children think they are invincible, no one can touch them. Youth does not die until she does.

Caren, the brevity of your poem parallels that of people texting and driving--and others on the road with them! Janice
