I await the first light of Dawn,
preening and primping my feathers.
And prepare to catch a thermal
as I soar above the heathers.
A red sun sears the horizon
as darkness gives way to daylight.
And when night shadows disappear,
color is restored to my sight.
Flexing my wings, I mount the wind,
embracing the lift breezes bring.
And equipped with lethal talons,
I'm as regal as any king.
Launching myself into the air,
I cull out the injured and weak.
And thus allow species to thrive,
ensuring they stay at their peak.
