Notes About The Poem

Sponsor: Tania Kitchin, 9/25/2025, I Am A Tree Poetry Contest

I Am a Redwood Tree

So high! So high! You looked down on me.
We are the tallest trees on earth. My thick,
reddish-brown bark is resilient. Tourists
love to take photos of me. I love to connect
with other roots for stability, stay moisturized
with the coastal fog. You traveled above me
on a logger’s route, too far above my treetop.
I saw you staring down and wondered how.
If you’d have come closer, I could have showed
off my fairy rings, long branches and longevity.

The red bark, sorrel color shines nicely in the light, beautiful giants. If it was God who looked down on you, and again staring down, makes it soulful, Kim. xXhugs

Your tree can be proud of many attributes, the tallest and the heftiest tree. Again its red bark makes it very attractive. Beautifully presented, dear Kim.

Looking down on those prominent trees was scary to say the least. My husband was young and driving a bit fast coming back from a weekend trip, I was pregnant with my first child, there was no gps to guide us. We foolishly chose a route on the map. We could have disappeared and no one would have found us. God is good and we came safely home, though toward the end too much gravel rounding a corner and crashed bruising my arm. We learned much about safety and wisdom.

This made my eyes sting, Kim - I have a special thing for trees, so... emotional connect, is what you shared with the redwood. Beautiful - <3

lovely description of one of my favorite trees. I especially liked: I love to connect with other roots for stability, stay moisturized with the coastal fog. You traveled above me on a logger’s route, too far above my treetop. best wishes with this entry in the contest, hugs, Sara
