Hungry

At a meeting, someone said, “I’m hungry. Who has food?” Some offerings were made for which He showed his gratitude: A yummy looking sandwich, Missing two or three small bites And a little bag of pretzels, Like those given out on flights. He ate and felt much better, Glad that we could help him out, For that’s what having friends around Is really all about. The meeting over, I walked out To catch an uptown train And passed a stranger on the street Who shouted out, in vain… “I’m hungry. Who has food for me?” He seemed about to cry; But all the crowd that swirled around Just kept on walking by.

You have a big heart, Ilene. I wish I had. The problem of hunger cannot be remedied by small offerings, however. That's doesn't mean we can't offer help. For me the problem are the scammers who pretend to be in need, and exploit our generosity for who knows what. So I'm very careful to whom I help. Love the poem. The one I just posed is, hope you don't mind, based on yours. I couldn't resist adding my view. / M

Oh...this is so sad, dear. It's good to help a friend, but even better to help a stranger in need. It isn't always convenient, I know. Lovely read, dear.

He was very fortunate indeed that people were able to help him and its a sad state of affairs that people are so desperately hungry they have to beg for food in the street and unfortunately not everyone has the finances to be able to help everyone who is in need of help:-(we now have food banks on our little Island, its something I never ever expected to see:-( hugs Jan xx
