How We Are Named
Her name is a long birthing vowel;
She names only the baby green turtles
that scurry into the open beaks of the seabirds.
Those babies that survive
go into the ocean, go unnamed.
This is a ‘for instance’ an example, a case in point;
extrapolate if you will.
Those she does not name, are named later
when the ocean within them
becomes too oceanic
for their shores to contain.
There is only one Name.
If we try to name ourselves
laughter shoots up our spine
like a Sanskrit rocket.
When She calls you,
it will be Her name She speaks;
it will be a long birthing vowel.
