How Some Darkness Feels

just some thoughts for a potential poem that isn't quite formed, just felt There's a mysterious safety I feel when walking at dusk Presumably built up from having untroubled peace at that time of day Should there be anyone to avoid, they stand out Rather than how people blend in during the hustle and bustle of day And take you by surprise with their hidden danger vibes The darkness, a protective layer that has an almost tangible feel The same with a night drive on a country road It gives me a sense of peace that others don't share I know headlights will forewarn me of company As I glide comfortably in the dark Just being myself Surrounded by air that seems to soothingly caress my skin As the day settles and comes to rest Watched by stars that have always watched And the moon that changes shape as if in casual conversation Reassuring me that moods wax and wane also and it's just their way And I can proceed with dignity with some presumed unknown purpose and assurance That carries a respectful nod Should I meet a passerby

A very interesting read, DD. I'm not much on giving advice but if you ever come to the US, I wouldn't advise walking in any city after dusk alone. It probably won't be a pleasant experience. I wish things were different but it is a sad reality here.

I spent a couple of months in Hendersonville, NC and have had holidays in NYC and New Orleans. I was never alone though I suppose. Actually, tell a lie. First night in NYC I went outside the hotel about 2am on my own to go to the shop, took one look round and went right back in and then moved to a different place to stay the next day haha! (Also it was 20 years ago)

In the night, all cats are grey. If I remember right, Johnny Cash when he played in cities all over the world would walk about at dusk, so he could see the city in peace. I myself roll in at dusk hoping no one sees me. lol

I'm getting all mixed up between the cats and the rolling - then just general animals rolling and I don't know, I'm thinking you perhaps have perculiar habits! (haha!) There's definitely a magic to a night time stroll if you pick the places well. Unfortunately you do have to be very selective (depending on how you get your kicks). Thanks for the comment, always appreciated (so far! I never know what you might say) :)

..."proceed with dignity with some presumed unknown purpose and assurance....that carries a respectful nod....should I meet a passerby" There are times DD that a simple nod is all the validation needed in the moment. Nicely done

An insight into your personality D, To prefer to walk alone at dusk or drive on a country road at night, when most would prefer to be with company at those times those situations. I fine poem, well composed. I enjoyed the read.
