How Many Times Must I Fall

How many times must I fall Till you finally hear my pleas Must I fall for all eternity For you to believe me Your smile is like the sun Your eyes are like the moon But to you I’m just a shadow That you cast on a warm afternoon We’ve known each other for years Always side by side But every compliment I tell you Just seems to fly by And as the years pass And another comes along I fall away forgotten Like the shadows on a wall And when fall comes and goes And your frown begins to grow I walk alongside you Just a friend among the snow How many years has passed Since I first had known Too many years to count Even I don’t know How many times must I fall For you to see me as me And even though I know the answer It isn’t one I can accept easily Because the answer I’ve been looking for Is that you’ll always only see me as a friend
