How I Would Love You

As a smoke from dying ember Softly wafts so gently upward Let my poem’s labored burning Still have warmth to touch your heart. Though without a breeze to stir, it Twists and curls in shapes fantastic, Draws you into deeper meaning My soul’s shadows would reveal. Let me give up all controlling Other than to do you honor Let me join in Nature’s rapture To which crickets lend their voice. My song spread like smoke diffusing Fragrance adding to your pleasure Hint I’m ever in your orbit Gravitas that has no choice. Never block the rays of sunshine God would cast in your direction, Petals falling in your pathway, Not His slightest blessing steal. Simply let my love in passing Echo truly what He’s given, Magnify His glow around you, Content just to play my part. Brian Johnston September 10, 2016
